How to force a manual release/renew of a DHCP-assigned IP Address.    

Windows 9x

  • Click [START] button.
  • Click on [RUN].
  • Type in:    winipcfg
  • Press the [OK] button.
  • A window should pop up – depending on the speed of your computer, this may take a moment.
  • Click the [RELEASE ALL] button.
  • Wait a few seconds.
  • Click the [RENEW ALL] button.
  • You may get an hourglass and have to wait several seconds before this process finishes.

 

Windows NT/2000/XP

  • Click your [START] button.
  • Click on [RUN].
  • Type in:     ipconfig /release *
  • Press the [OK] button.
  • You should see a window flash up and quickly disappear.
  • Click your [START] button again.
  • Choose [RUN] from the menu.
  • Type in:    ipconfig /renew *
  • This may take several seconds and you will see a window open/close once again.
